USI provides educational resources ahead of solar eclipse, new videos added

In preparation for the solar eclipse on April 8, the University of Southern Indiana has compiled educational resources for K-12 teachers and students including tailored lesson plans, interactive activities, and short videos to teach students of all ages about the science, history and cultural significance of solar eclipses.  

Educational resources were created by USI professors and are designed to bring the solar eclipse to life in the classroom. Faculty expertise is highlighted in brief videos and provides an accessible way to introduce a wide range of topics related to eclipses. Provided activities such as a pinhole projection in a box and an eclipse observation worksheet cover a variety of content areas and are ideal for classroom learning, at-home projects or as supplementary virtual learning materials. Partner resources from educational websites are also available.  

The educational resources are free for anyone to use and can be found on the USI Solarpalooza website. The site also includes more information about Solarpalooza, which will include speakers, viewing opportunities, food trucks, music and more. Individuals and groups can also sign up to attend Solarpalooza, the Evansville area’s premiere eclipse viewing event, and receive additional information as the event draws closer.
