Parker is new director of Career Services and Placement

Phil Parker has been named the director of Career Services and Placement. He was an assistant director in the Stuckert Career Center at the University of Kentucky, where he handled career services for the College of Engineering. He has several years of experience in university career services, having worked for six years at Western Kentucky University, where he worked with students in several majors including business, engineering, nursing, healthcare administration, and communications.

"I'm glad to be at USI,” Parker said. “It's an institution that is closely linked to the professional workforce and economic vitality of the region and the state. USI Career Services has played a crucial role in that mission and I welcome the opportunity to continue and build upon the success of that role."

Parker earned his bachelor’s degree in public relations from WKU, as well as a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in counseling.

Prior to working in higher education, he spent several years in healthcare information systems with Commonwealth Health Corporation, a regional hospital and healthcare management company based in Bowling Green, Kentucky. While at CHC, he worked with hospital administration and clinical staff, eventually becoming a senior systems analyst working to ensure that clinical computer applications operated properly. He handled extensive vendor relations between the corporation and the software applications firm in Boston, as well.

A Kentucky native, Parker has a background in agriculture, having grown up on a dairy and grain farm. He currently owns a small farm that has been in his family for six generations and enjoys spending time there when possible.
