Eagles fourth in final poll
A fourth-place ranking in final Collegiate Baseball Magazine
NCAA II Poll is the result of the University of Southern Indiana
baseball team's record-setting season.
The Screaming Eagles (43-23) finished the 2007 campaign with a
school-record 43 wins and their first-ever showing in the NCAA II
National Championship Series. USI, which was 2-2 in Montgomery, Alabama,
en route to a final four appearance, appeared in the conference
tournament for the first time since 2001 and made its first trip to the
NCAA II North Central Region Tournament since 1994.
As a team, the Eagles set single-season records for hits (589), at-bats
(2,078), and stolen bases (150). Defensively, the Eagles set
single-season records for strikeouts (317), putouts (1,630), assists
(726), and total fielding chances (2,458).
The University of Tampa, which defeated Columbus State University, 7-2,
in the national championship game, was the top team in the rankings.
Columbus State and California State University-Los Angeles were second
and third, respectively, while Florida Southern College rounded out the
top five.
USI was ranked 13th, nationally, heading into the NCAA II National
Championship Series.
