The
University of Southern Indiana’s 2008 Volunteer of the Year award was
presented to David Herrenbruck ‘76 at the Volunteer Recognition
Dinner in September. The Volunteer USI Advisory Council and the Office
of Alumni and Volunteer Services host the annual event to acknowledge
and thank USI’s outstanding volunteers.
USI Men’s Basketball Coach Rick Herdes presented the award.
“David’s service to USI is extraordinary,” Herdes said. “His commitment
to the University sets a fine example and demonstrates the power of
individuals to effect change.”
Herrenbruck, a USI graduate with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, is
vice president and wealth management advisor for Fifth Third Bank. He
served as president of the USI Alumni Association from 2002-03;
secretary 2000-01; and Alumni Council member 1999-2004. A member of the
USI Foundation Board since 2001, he was chair of the 2005-06 New Donor
Alumni Campaign, past chair of the Alumni Annual Fund Campaign Board,
and a Campaign USI volunteer.
He has provided leadership to the Varsity Club since 1993, serving as
president 1995-96, treasurer 1994, and co-chair of the Steak Fry 'n
Auction for the past seven years, transforming the event into a
successful fundraiser. He received the Alumni Association’s Alumni
Service Award in 2005.
As the recipient of the 2008 Volunteer of the Year Award, his name will
be placed on the permanent plaque that is displayed outside of Carter
Hall in the University Center.
