USI Offers Legal Series for Small Businesses at Innovation Pointe

Whether you are a new start-up or a long established small business, reducing your legal risks can improve your bottom line and increase your focus on serving your clients and running your business. USI’s Legal Series for Small Business addresses topics for today’s changing legal environment. Sessions will be held in the fifth floor conference room at Innovation Pointe, 318 Main Street.

USI is Innovation Pointe’s education partner.

Sessions include:

Strategies to Reduce Legal Risks Against Non-Employees
This session focuses on various documents and procedures that assist all businesses in minimizing the risks of lawsuits against other companies and third-party individuals. Learn the best practices that every business should implement to help reduce legal risk, such as terms and conditions, buy-sell agreements, and non-compete agreements.
Instructors: David D. Sanders and Danny E. Glass
Date and time: Thursday, March 19, 2-4 p.m.

Employee Business Strategies and Document Retention
Every business should have a documentation policy. Learn the best practices for reducing legal risks by documenting job descriptions, employment policies, and employee discipline. Also, receive advice on developing a document retention program for your company, including rules concerning retention periods and proper document destruction strategies. This program covers the increased use of e-discovery and the good, the bad, and the ugly of emails.
Instructors: H. Linwood Shannon and Daniel B. Gearhart
Date and time: Thursday, April 9, 2-4 p.m.

All sessions will be conducted by attorneys from Fine and Hatfield, A Professional Corporation. The registration fee is $75 per session, including materials.  To register, call Extended Services at 812/464-1989 or 800/467-8600, email extserv@usi.edu, or go to www.usi.edu/extserv.
