The USI Alumni Association is planning “The Big Easier Adventure:
Beyond Bourbon Street” for May 26-30 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Two frequent New Orleans visitors have teamed with the USI Alumni
Association to offer USI friends an opportunity to see and do things
they might otherwise miss, including:
• Dinner at Brennan’s with special wine pairing and commentary by Cellar
Master Harry Hill
• A five-course lunch with wine Chef Greg Piccolo at The Bistro.
Chef Greg is known for his use of local seasonal ingredients to produce
fabulous meals.
• A VIP tour of the Museum of the American Cocktail. You’ll meet New
Orleans raconteurs and have an opportunity for an optional special
dinner at Café Adelaide.
• Reception at Arnaud’s, complete with a tour of their Mardi Gras
costume collection.
Optional destinations and activities include shopping at Canal Place and
Riverwalk, Harrah’s Casino, Aquarium of the Americas, World War II
Museum, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, galleries and antique shops,
carriage rides and haunted tours, St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson
Square, the French Market, world-class restaurants, streetcar rides, and
Garden District, cemetery, swamp, and plantation tours. If enough people
are interested, there may be a special session at a culinary institute.
The group will stay at Hotel Monteleone, one of the French Quarter’s
finest hotels. Lodging for Tuesday through Friday nights (double
occupancy) is included in the tour cost. Transportation to New Orleans
is not included.
The trip will be guided by Madonna Yancey and
Linda Cleek '82
M'00, associate dean of Extended Services. Yancey has family ties in
New Orleans and has been a regular visitor throughout her life. A
journalist, she has covered the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience
since 1998 and knows many of the great chefs of New Orleans.
The final per-person registration fee for The Big Easier Adventure will
be determined by the number of participants. A minimum of 10 travelers
is required, with the per-person fee lower if more participate. The
price will range from $815 (for 10 to 14 people) to $685 (for 25 or
more). A $200 deposit is required by March 27, with the balance due by
May 1.
