Bequette is Assistant Director of Security
Stephen L. Bequette, an accomplished law enforcement professional
with over 30 years of experience in the
Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, has been selected as USI’s
assistant director of Security.
Bequette began his career in law enforcement as an intern in the
Sheriff’s Office shortly after graduating from Mater Dei High School in
1974 and held all merit ranks before he was appointed major by Sheriff
Eric Williams in 2007. Before accepting the position at USI, he was the
confinement division commander, overseeing the county jail and community
corrections.
He has a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from University of
Evansville and is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and
the FBI National Academy. He has taught as an adjunct instructor in
criminal investigations and criminalistics at Ivy Tech Community
College.
Stephen Woodall '78, director of Security, said, “I know Steve will
do an excellent job. His experience and education speak for themselves.
He has experience in law enforcement and emergency preparedness that may
be an issue in a campus environment.”
Bequette is the grandfather of Jenna Whorl, a sophomore early
childhood education major at USI.
