USI Trustees Approve Degree in Food and
Nutrition
A baccalaureate degree in food and nutrition was approved
by the University of Southern Indiana Board of Trustees during its November
4, 2004 meeting. The degree will prepare graduates for careers in dietetics,
nutrition and wellness, and food management.
Nutrition faculty in the School of Nursing and Health Professions planned
the program in consultation with an advisory committee that included
dietitians, wellness consultants, and food managers.
The program will offer three specialty area options: dietetics, nutrition
and wellness, and food service management.
Students of this major will complete 50 hours of the University Core
Curriculum, 29 hours of core food and nutrition courses, 35 to 38 hours of
courses specific to the specialty area, and eight to 10 hours of electives.
Articulation agreements will be developed with area community colleges to
facilitate associate degree graduates' matriculation into the USI
baccalaureate nutrition program.
The program is expected to be implemented in fall 2005 pending approval of
the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
