A comic romp, an American masterpiece, and the Marx Brothers to highlight New Harmony Theatre's 16th season

New Harmony Theatre will once again bring a variety of high-quality shows and artists to the community in 2003. Since 1995, the credentials of NHT actors and designers include 102 Broadway shows, two Oscars, four Tony Award nominations, and two Obie Awards. The 2003 season will be no different, kicking off with The Foreigner, followed by The Eccentricities of a Nightingale, and closing with A Day in Hollywood/ A Night in the Ukraine.

The summer begins with one of the most popular contemporary comedies and winner of two Obie Awards for its long run Off-Broadway. This devilish comic romp of a play demonstrates what can happen when a group of devious characters must deal with a stranger whom, they think, knows no English. Running Thursdays through Sundays, June 13-29, Larry Shue's The Foreigner is one comic surprise after another.

Tennessee Williams' The Eccentricities of a Nightingale is one of the master playwright's most hauntingly beautiful plays. New Harmony Theatre is presenting this enchanting drama with special permission from the Williams estate. The Eccentricities of a Nightingale will open July 11 and run Thursdays to Sundays through July 27.

The summer season ends with the Marx Brothers. Dick Vosburgh's and Frank Lazarus' A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine takes a look back at the big-screen counterpart. The first act is a funny and nostalgic spoof of 1930's movies. The second act is the comedy the Marx Brothers didn't make, but could have! Winner of two Tony Awards and nominated for nine - including Best Musical - this hilarious, high-energy show is a summer must-see. Join the fun Thursdays to Sundays August 1-17.

A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine will mark Artistic Director Scott LaFeber's 20th show directed at New Harmony.

He said, "I'm very excited about offering such a varied program for the 2003 season. It's obvious our formula of variety and high quality is working as our ticket sales have skyrocketed since 1997. I promise another season of superb actors and designers to share in the unique NHT experience with our audiences."

Subscription prices are $55 per adult and $50 per senior. For more information, or to order tickets, call 1-800/NHT-SHOW or visit www.newharmonytheatre.com.

All shows are performed at Murphy Auditorium, New Harmony, Indiana. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.

The New Harmony Theatre is produced by University of Southern Indiana and is generously supported by the Indiana Arts Commission, The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
