Fredrich

Augustine Jay Fredrich, professor of engineering and associate dean of the Pott School of Science and Engineering, has been named winner of the 2003 H. Lee Cooper Core Curriculum Teaching Award.

The award, focusing exclusively on teaching, honors a faculty member whose work in University Core courses has been especially creative and successful in furthering UCC goals.

The University Core Council announced the award April 12. It will officially be presented at the Fall Faculty and Administrative Staff Meeting in August. The award includes a generous stipend, a plaque, and additional monies for travel and related faculty development.

In nominating Fredrich, Dr. Thomas Wilhelmus, associate dean of the School of Liberal Arts, and Dr. Thomas Rivers, professor of English, wrote:

"The nomination underscores the relevance of (Fredrich's) course (Cathedrals) to the best principles of education in the Core Curriculum and the support it receives from colleagues, the principles with which it is constructed, and the way it has affected the lives of generations of USI students."

Fredrich holds an M.S.C.E. from California State University-Sacramento. He joined the USI faculty in 1979.

As this year's winner, Fredrich also will deliver a presentation to the University community during the 2003-04 academic year. Details will be released at a later date.

The Cooper Award is named in honor of H. Lee Cooper, Evansville philanthropist and long-time USI supporter.
