Steve Radick Will Speak at USI Symposium on Social Media

The University of Southern Indiana′s Department of Communications and Scripps Howard Center for Media Studies will host a symposium, "The Impact of Social Media on Communications," on Wednesday and Thursday, March 3-4.

"Facing the Social Media," a panel discussion of area professional media, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, in Carter Hall in the University Center. The USI chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) will host a reception after the discussion.

Steve Radick, the keynote speaker, will present "Stop Making Pitches and Start Having Conversations" at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center. Radick is an associate with Booz Allen Hamilton, a global strategy and technology consulting firm. He serves as one of the leads for Booz Allen′s social media practice, working with clients across the public sector to integrate social media strategies and tactics into their organizational strategies.

Radick graduated from Bethany College in West Virginia, where he was a PRSSA member and received the National Gold Key Award, the highest individual honor bestowed upon members of PRSSA. After graduation, he joined Booz Allen and began its social media practice in 2007.

His background is in change management, strategic communications, and stakeholder engagement strategy and implementation. He focuses not only on the technology and infrastructure aspects of social media, but on the people and processes that determine the success of social media and Government 2.0, the strategic use of technology to make government more participatory, collaborative, and transparent.

Radick serves on the advisory board for the SmartBrief on Social Media and Governingpeople.com and on the program committee for the Government 2.0 Expo. He also was one of the co-founders of the Social Media Education Connection, and was named one of the PR News "15 to Watch For" in 2009. Radick is also a contributing author of the Government 2.0 book, State of the eUnion, Government 2.0 and Onwards.

He blogs about his approach to public relations and social media on his Social Media Strategy blog at
www.steveradick.com.

All events are open to the public. For more information about the symposium, call Dr. Gael Cooper, director of the Scripps Howard Center for Media Studies, at 812/465-7136.
