We hope that you will consider a major in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management, or one of the interdisciplinary degrees here at USI. With this website, we have tried to provide you with as much information as possible about our programs and possible careers upon graduation.

Computer Science
The Computer Science program is designed to prepare graduates for computer software development, software engineering, software development management, system development and computer entrepreneurial positions in businesses and scientific organizations. It also prepares students for graduate study in computer science. Graduates of the program develop an understanding of algorithms, data structures, artificial intelligence, computer organization and architecture, numerical computation, operating systems, networking, programming language theory, and software engineering. Since the program is offered by the College of Business, unique opportunities for business management, marketing, accounting and management information systems electives are offered.

Computer Information Systems
The Computer Information Systems (CIS) major is designed to prepare individuals to develop and support information systems using computers in a business or organizational environment.

The primary objective of the CIS major is to provide graduates with knowledge, abilities, and attitudes to function effectively as applications programmer/analysts, and with the educational background and desire to pursue lifelong professional development.

Management
The Management major is designed to provide students with sufficient knowledge and skills to work in a variety of management positions. Students have the option of specializing in one of two tracks: Human Resource Management or Change/Innovation Management. Employment opportunities for management majors include human resource management, management of production or service facilities, and management of not-for-profit organizations.

Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Computer Information Systems
This program is designed for those who already hold a bachelor’s (four-year) degree in another field, but are interested in changing careers to enter employment in the computer field. A formal certificate of recognition is awarded upon successful completion of the program. Three tracks of interests are available.

If, after reading about the available programs, you have questions or want more information, please send an email, call, or write.  All the faculty in the department stand ready to answer your questions and provide a quality education that will lead to a successful career.
