As faculty members at the University of Southern Indiana, it's very probable you'll have students with disabilities in your classes, to whom you may have a legal obligation to provide reasonable accommodation. Since it's not always easy to understand these obligations, to recognize what may be considered a reasonable request by a student, or to know precisely what may help students with various disabilities in different classroom situations, the following links may provide you with some guidance.
Students with Psychiatric Disabilities
There also may be times when you have contact with a student whose behaviors cause you concern or discomfort, or which interfere with your work or the education of other students. It's important to realize that such a situation will most likely not "just go away," and you may be faced with a persistent and recurring problem unless an appropriate intervention is found. Counseling Center staff created the following protocol to use, as well as a publication to help you when difficult situations arise.
