RISC program logo

The RISC program is housed under the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence and is funded through the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. It has three components:

1) The RISC Grant program - this program is a competitive grant program for undergraduate students who are conducting research, scholarly or creative endeavors at the University of Southern Indiana. Students are encouraged to apply for up to $1500.00.

  • It can be used to help defray costs for equipment, lab work, materials, and travel expenses necessary for the research to occur.
  • The deadlines to submit grant proposals are the Friday of the sixth week of the Fall semester, the Friday of the fourth week of the Spring semester, and the first Friday in April for the Summer semesters.

2) The RISC Travel Grant Program - this program is designed to assist undergraduate students travelling to professional meetings to present their research, scholarly or creative efforts. Students are encouraged to apply for funds up to $1000.00 to help defray travel costs.

  • The travel grants can be applied for at any time, but they must be completed, submitted and approved at least 30 days before the scheduled travel date.

3) The RISC Showcase, sponsored by Vectren. This is a research conference in early to mid-April of each academic year that ANY undergraduate student can participate in, regardless of whether or not they have applied for RISC Grant funds. Students who have completed research, scholalrly or creative endeavors either as independent projects or within the confines of a class project, are encouraged to submit an abstract or description of their project and present their efforts to the University and community.

  • The abstract submission deadline for the 7th annual RISC Showcase is Thursday March 20, 2008. This years Showcase is set for Thursday and Friday, April 10-11, 2008
