Elementary Education

The student who desires to become an elementary school teacher will complete the minimum course of study that leads to a Bachelor of Science degree and standard license in the State of Indiana, which is valid for teaching all subjects in grades kindergarten to six inclusive.

A Bachelor of Arts degree may be earned when the appropriate amount of credit in a foreign language is earned. Elementary education majors are encouraged to complete a teaching minor, also.

Students majoring in elementary education and preparing to teach in the intermediate grades (4-6) and middle school (4-8) take all of the above-listed courses except EDUC 351, EDUC 356, EDUC 357, and must also add the following:

EDUC488 The Middle School Curriculum

Content Area Minor (hours vary) in Language Arts, Foreign Language, Science, Mathematics, Physical Education, Special Education, Reading, Social Studies, or Visual Arts.
