Tenure-track Literacy/Reading position in the Department of Teacher Education beginning Fall 2008. Responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate teaching and field supervision in literacy/reading education, a continuing professional development plan, advising undergraduate and graduate students, community and university service, and an emerging research agenda. The University of Southern Indiana is a regionally-responsive, needs-driven, comprehensive public university in the model of the "new American college." Emphasizing teaching and collaboration between faculty, students, and community, the University favors applied research that supports faculty members' teaching and service. The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate in literacy/reading education (ABD considered if dissertation defense date is set) and must have three years teaching experience in a K-6 classroom. The candidate must have expertise in elementary school literacy teaching. Experience in working with partnership schools, in field based teaching, in teaching diverse populations, and/or in critical literacy preferred. The Department of Teacher Education at the University of Southern Indiana seeks a dynamic individual to fill a tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education, with an emphasis in Primary Elementary Grades (Kindergarten - 3rd Grade), to begin Fall 2008. This position offers the opportunity for independent professionals to initiate and perform active and supported teaching, research, and service agendas. Qualified applicants hold an earned doctorate or ABD with an emphasis in early childhood or child development (Birth through 8 years), three years teaching experience in an early childhood/primary elementary setting, and a demonstrated commitment to scholarly activity, scholarly publications, and conference presentations. A desirable qualification includes successful higher education teaching experience. Major Responsibilities: The individual filling the position will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Early Childhood Education in the Department of Teacher Education. The teaching assignment may include some courses in the Elementary Education program. This position also requires the individual to advise students and schedule field placements for courses taught.
