Emerging Leaders Living-Learning Community

Living-Learning Communities provide new students with the opportunity to live together in a residence hall and take three classes together each semester.  The Emerging Leaders Community also provides first-year students with an in-depth look at leadership development, and challenges students to look at leadership in new ways.

Many people think of leadership as a position you are elected to, appointed to, or achieve through competition. However, the Emerging Leaders LLC is guided by the principle that leadership is the action you take and relationships you make to create positive change in the people and community around you.

Students in this community will learn about various leadership topics, team-building, communication, and collaboration. Students also will discover and adopt their own leadership style, and put their knowledge and skills to the test by getting involved in the many leadership opportunities available on campus. Additionally, the Emerging Leaders Community provides students with the opportunities to make connections to other student leaders on campus.

Being heavily involved in high school clubs and organizations is certainly not a requirement for the Emerging Leaders LLC. You only need to have an interest in realizing and achieving your potential as a student leader on the USI campus.

As mentioned earlier, the students in the Emerging Leaders community take a 3-class course cluster together, which consists of the following classes:

Fall Semester:

History 102

Communication Studies 101

UNIV 101

Spring Semester:

Psychology 201

UNIV 102

NOTE: UNIV classes are 1 credit-hour freshman seminars designed to help LLC students with their transition and continued success during their first year in college.

If you are interested in participating in the Emerging Leaders Living-Learning Community, complete the Living-Learning Community portion of the Residence Life housing application, including the required LLC application essay.
