Voter Registration

Recent changes in the 1998 reauthorization of the Higher Education Act require universities to make available voter registration forms to students enrolled in on-campus classes. Any student not registered to vote may obtain an Indiana Mail-In Voter Registration Application (VRG-7i) from several convenient campus locations.

Voter registration applications are available from the following locations:

Counseling Center - OC 1019, Orr Center

Dean of Students - UC 007, University Center
Graduate Studies - WA 104, Wright Administration Building
Orr Center Information Desk - Main Floor
Registrar's Office - OC 1075, Orr Center

Student Financial Assistance - OC 1095, Orr Center
Student Government Association - UC 024D, University Center

University Residences - Main desk at each facility and at the Housing Office

The Federal Election Commission has the Voter Registration Form available on the web in PDF format. The form is acceptable in Indiana.

Voter registration forms are also available in the Vanderburgh County Election Office, public libraries, state license branches, and other locations.

Complete the application and mail it in. Mail-in voter registration applications must be postmarked no later than the registration deadline.

Important Deadlines

The voter registration deadline for the May 6, 2008 primary election is April 7, 2008; voter registration deadline for the November 4, 2008 general election is October 6, 2008.

2008 Indiana Election Calendar

Eligibility
To be eligible to vote in Indiana, you must:

be a citizen of the United States;

be at least 18 years old on the day of the next general or municipal election;

have lived in your Indiana precinct for at least 30 days before the next election; and

not currently be in prison for a criminal conviction.

Please note: Indiana residents attending USI from outside Vanderburgh County, as well as those students from other states, may register to vote in Vanderburgh County by using their local student address when completing the Indiana Mail-In Voter Registration Application.
