Eagles fall to Buccaneers

Christian Brothers 1, @ Southern Indiana 0

The University of Southern Indiana baseball team dropped a tough one to Christian Brothers University, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI falls to 9-6 overall this season, while CBU goes to 8-12 overall.

The highlight of the afternoon for USI was sophomore shortstop Josh Perkins (Lafayette, Indiana) tying a USI record by hitting safely in his 17th straight game. Perkins, who started his streak in the final two games of the 2000 campaign, tied former USI All-American Kevin Brown, who set the record by in 1993.

The problem for the Eagles was they could only manage two addition hits to the eighth inning single by Perkins. CBU’s senior left-hander Brian Volante held USI scoreless on three hits, while striking out five.

USI senior right-hander Jon Adams (Ft. Branch, Indiana) gave USI a strong outing in the losing cause, allowing only an unearned run in 7 2/3 innings on three hits and six walks while striking out eight.

The next action for the Screaming Eagles will be Tuesday, March 20, when they host Indiana University-Southeast at 1 p.m. USI will open the Great Lakes Valley Conference action on the road at Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, for a three-game series.
