USI blasts by USCA 11-2
University of Southern Indiana 11, @University of South Carolina-Aiken 2
The University of Southern Indiana baseball team blasted its way past the University of South Carolina-Aiken, 11-2, Thursday evening in Aiken, South Carolina. USI, 3-3 on the southern trip, raises its record to 6-4 overall.
Tied 2-2, junior third baseman Justin Ambs sparked a five run fifth with a three-run home run to give the Eagles a 7-2 lead. Ambs finished the evening going two-for-five with four RBIs. The Eagles put the game out of reach with four runs in the top of the ninth, topped off by a two-run home run by junior designated hitter Brian Branson, who hit a two-run shot to finish the evening two-for-five.
Sophomore shortstop Josh Perkins led th Eagles with multiple hits, going four-for-five with two runs scored and a RBI.
On the mound, senior right-hander Kylan Stuck went the distance for the Eagles, giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out eight. Stuck, a transfer from Delta Stat University, is 2-1 for USI this season.
USI will finish the spring trip on Friday, March 9, at Anderson College in Anderson, South Carolina for a 1 p.m. (CT) contest.
