USI sweeps Carson-Newman in season opening doubleheader

The University of Southern Indiana baseball team opened its 2001 campaign on
a good note this afternoon as it swept a doubleheader at Carson-Newman.
Sophomore outfielder Andy Nucci (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) went three-for-four
and drove in three runs as the Eagles recorded a 4-2 victory. Senior Kylan
Stuck (Carmel, Indiana) gave up five hits and two earned runs in five
innings of work to pick up his first victory in a USI uniform. Freshman pitcher Drew
Neel (Newburgh, Indiana) went four innings to pick up his first career save.
Junior infielder Justin Ambs (Zionsville, Indiana) hit a pinch-hit
three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to boost the Eagles to a 7-6
victory in game two. Junior pitcher Steve Arnold (Evansville, Indiana)
entered during the bottom of the third inning and gave up one earned run in
three-and-a-third innings to record the victory. Sophomore hurler Dustin
Macke (Evansville, Indiana) came in with one out in the bottom of the sixth
inning to strand a couple of runners and record the save.
USI and Carson-Newman will wrap up their three-game series tomorrow at 12 p.m.
Carson-Newman falls to 4-10 with the losses.
