ENGLISH 490
Tutoring Practicum
English 490 is a three-hour course that enables students to
gain practical experience in teaching English on a one-to-one basis as a
tutor in Academic Skills. Subjects covered include the role of the
tutor, the writing process, and learning styles. Strategies for tutoring
will be emphasized, such as strategies for keeping the student involved
in the session, helping the student with organization and development,
and meeting the needs of students with learning disabilities and
non-native speakers of English.
A tuition waiver is available for most students.
