ACHIEVE
Early intervention is one of the keys to student success. During a typical 16-week semester, there are critical periods of time that indicate student potential for failure. Weeks three, four, and five represent the first period when the instructor observes:
low skill levels
poor attendance
missed assignments
limited note-taking
absence of a text book
Failing the first exam is a likely result, and if the behavior persists, mid-term grades will come too late to warn students of their imminent failure in the class. Unfortunately, often students are unable to spot the signals themselves.
