Academic Skills Specialists

Nancy Myers joined the Academic Skills staff in August of 1989 as a GENS097 adjunct instructor.  In August of 1993, she became the first person to serve as Math Specialist at a time when Academic Skills was just starting to form.  The full time staff totaled 4 people.  Besides teaching, her duties included supervising GENS 097 adjunct instructors and recruiting, training and supervising the math tutors, and serves as the liaison between Academic Skills and the Math Department. In December of 2006, Nancy’s job title changed to Math Specialist and Placement Testing Coordinator.  Supervising placement testing was added to her duties.    

Nancy has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from ISUE (now known as USI) and a Master of Arts degree in Education from the University of Evansville.  She has been an educator for 34 years, 18 of those years as the full time Math Specialist.  She has presented numerous workshops at USI covering topics such as:  Math Anxiety, Math Test Taking Tips and Paper folding.  She has presented at NADE conferences several times sharing ideas that she uses in class.  Nancy is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Association of Developmental Education.

In 200-2008 Nancy attended the Ivy Tech Academy for Instructional Excellence representing the university and is now considered a Master Teacher.  She was also recognized in Who’s Who Among Teachers in 2004.  She has been a Math Pioneer with the Pearson Publishing since it began in 2004.
 
In her spare time, Nancy enjoys working in the University Division Adopt-a-Spot and spending time with her family.  She also works with Angel Food Ministries and teaches the SAT Math Prep class several times each year.
