Placement Testing

University of Southern Indiana’s placement testing program is designed to assist students in making a smooth transition from high school to their studies at USI. These exams provide information to help students select courses that correspond to their levels of achievement.

Placement exams are required of most new students and must be completed prior to advising and registration. This may be accomplished by testing on campus prior to a student’s orientation date (preferred) or on the assigned orientation date.

Other testing information:

If testing on the assigned orientation date, student will test at 7:00 a.m.
A student ID number and photo ID are required to test.
Registration for placement testing is not required.
Walk-in testing is available:
- Monday – Friday (Central Time) 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.*

* The night before any orientation date, placement testing is available until 6:00 p.m.

Allow one half hour to an hour for any test. Add an additional half hour for any additional optional testing.
Students with disabilities requesting special accommodations:

Must be registered with the USI Counseling Center.
Must schedule an appointment with Academic Skills (812) 463-1743 at least two weeks prior to placement testing. Documentation of disability must be received in Academic Skills prior to the appointment date.
