Success Series Workshops

Academic Skills And University Division Advising present the following Success Series Workshops for the Spring 2009 semester. These 45-minute interactive workshops are offered throughout the semester.

ALL workshops are held in ED1103 from 4:00PM - 4:45PM and are free and open to students, faculty, and staff.

Fall Semester 2009

DON'T DELAY: ANTI-PROCRASTINATION TECHNIQUES
Do you put things off?  Do you review your iTunes playlist rather than reviewing your lecture notes?  When you have a test to study for, does your refrigerator suddenly need cleaning out?  If you procrastinate, this session will give you techniques for prioritizing and completing your academic workload

FIND YOUR WAY THROUGH YOUR GPA
Learn how to calculate your collegiate GPA. If you don't know what a quality point is, you don't know how to calculate your GPA! This workshop is for you and a friend!

IMPROVE YOUR READING SPEED
The average college student will be required to read 2,500 pages of text every semester. Are your reading speed and comprehension skills strong enough to meet the demands of college reading? Attend this interactive workshop to assess your current reading speed, learn to break bad habits, and apply some new reading strategies to become an efficient and flexible reader.

MAKING MAJOR DECISIONS
Are you wondering why a choice of major and career direction has been a struggle for you?  It is quite normal to be uncertain about your choice of a major and/or career direction at this time.  College is a time of exploration and self-discovery.   This session is designed to help you identify your own skills, interests, and abilities, explore the connection between majors and careers, and create an action plan that moves you forward in the major and career exploration process.

MAKING YOUR LEARNING STYLE WORK FOR YOU
Does your learning style match your instructor's teaching style? Does it matter? This workshop will help you discover what your learning style is and how you can maximize your learning by addressing you learning style. It will also answer the question...What exactly is a toobaloo?

NOTEWORTHY NOTE TAKING
One of the most important skills needed in college is the ability to take good notes. Learn techniques for effective listening, the three steps involved in taking notes, and several types of note-taking methods including the Cornell Method.

PREPARING FOR YOUR MATH FINAL

Learn to prepare for your math final so that your results are fantastic!  We will discuss ways to use your lead-up time wisely and suggest tips for preparing that will allow you to approach your math final with confidence.

PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION ETIQUETTE
Are you nervous about setting up and going to appointments with your advisor or professors? Does talking to your instructors intimidate you? Do you want to impress others with confident and respectful e-mail correspondence? This short seminar will teach you how to communicate and conduct yourself effectively in professional situations. It will cover topics such as making and preparing for appointments, conversing with professors, practicing proper e-mail etiquette, and interacting with other professionals.
