Transfer Students

Transfer student admission requirements and procedure
Each applicant must submit:

*A high school transcript with graduation date if the applicant has completed fewer than 24 semester hours
(or 36 quarter hours) of college course work
*Official college transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended

The Admission Committee reviews transfer applicants based on their academic success thus far.

If admission is granted, notification is sent regarding how to access the transfer evaluation online.  Students may run a Degree Audit Report (DARS) from MyUSI or contact academic departments to learn which courses are needed to receive a specific degree from USI.

A minimum of 30 semester hours of credit must be earned toward the completion of a baccalaureate degree and 18 semester hours of credit toward an associate degree from USI.

Transfer Credit
Course credit earned from accredited universities will be accepted as transfer credit at USI subject to the following guidelines:

*Hours for which a "D" grade was earned will not transfer to USI
*Overall transfer GPA will not be recorded on a USI transcript.  A GPA will be established based solely on
courses taken at USI.  However, all hours attempted at previous universities will be added to USI hours
in order to compute eligibility for graduation honors
*Credit from quarter-system schools are equal to two-thirds of credits at USI.
*A maximum of 64 credit hours may be transferred from any/all accredited community/junior colleges attended.
*Orientation courses, noncredit and audited courses, remedial courses, and courses taken in programs not
offered by USI are not transferable to USI.
*Even though credit hours are transferable to USI, the transferred hours may not necessarily apply toward
a particular degree program.  The applicability of credits toward a particular degree can be determined
in counsel with an academic advisor

Articulation Agreement
Articulation agreements allow transfer of specific courses or blocks of credit from nearby community colleges.
These agreements apply to associate degree-earning students only.  Students enrolled in an accredited degree
program and interested in a baccalaureate degree from USI are encouraged to obtain specific transfer credit
information from their college transfer office, or USI, as early as possible.  Some program restrictions do apply;
specific details can be discussed with the USI Credentials Analyst.

For questions regarding the transferability of credits, contact Mary Branson, Credentials Analyst, at
mbranson@usi.edu, 812/465-7171 or 800/467-1965, or refer to www.transferin.net.
