ICHE approves engineering program
The Indiana Commission for Higher Education has approved a revised
engineering program to begin fall 2002. The existing engineering technology
programs will be converted into a single program that will lead to a
Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
The ICHE also approved a 2+2 program calling for USI to work with Purdue
University to offer a bachelor's degree, either jointly or by one or both of
the institutions. The two universities will develop a curriculum that will
allow students to take two years at USI and then transfer to Purdue or
University of Evansville for specialized engineering courses.
University President Dr. H. Ray Hoops called the move the most important
action for this region since USI was created.
"The University of Southern Indiana believes that the provision of
additional engineering education is essential to the continuing economic
development of the southern region of the state," he said. "We are committed
to providing that service."
