2003 Alumni Award Recipients
The USI Alumni Association honored two alumni, a faculty member, and a civic leader at the Class of 2003 Reception and Dinner held on May 10, 2003.

Will
|
The University is living testimony to the magnificent progress that can be achieved with teamwork and the generous support of friends. One special friend who has assisted in assuring USI's development is James L. Will Sr.
For more than three decades, USI organizations have benefited from Will's insights and leadership, including the USI Varsity Club, which he helped to found and served as president 1977-78; Athletics Coaches Club; USI Foundation Board of Directors; USI/New Harmony Foundation Board; and the Southern Indiana Higher Education Board. A member of the USI Board of Trustees since 1996, Will served as chair 1999-2002.
Throughout the years, he has set the pace for others to follow to assure USI's progress and growth. For his continued dedication and involvement in the University, he was named to the USI President's Circle in 2002. Always looking to the future for USI, Will and his wife Eileen created an endowed Presidential Scholarship for USI students.
He is the founder and retired CEO of James L. Will Insurance Agency and the founder and senior partner of Freeman, Will, Niemeier Financial Services.

Dr. Jane A. Davis-Brezette, associate professor and chair of the Physical Education Department, began teaching at USI in 1970 and has been responsible for helping shape the University's physical education major. She is a dedicated educator whose caring personality, combined with her expertise as a teacher and advisor, have earned her the enduring respect of students and colleagues.
Davis-Brezette received her bachelor's degree from Oakland City College, her master's from Indiana State University, and her doctorate in physical education from Indiana University. In the early years of the University, she was Student Affairs sponsor working with the Student Government Association, Panhellenic Council, Cheerleaders, and Feather Shakers creating important foundations for programs that exist today.
Each semester Davis-Brezette advises more than 60 students during registration, while teaching both Core Curriculum and major-level classes. She served as chair of a successful assessment procedure for physical education courses approved to satisfy the University Core Curriculum and was a member of the Indiana Task Force on Teacher Licensure.
She is serving a second term on the Faculty Senate and has been a member of the Tenure and Promotions Committee, Physical Activities Center Advisory Board, Athletics Board, and Honors Day Committee. From 1980 to 1984, she was the USI women's tennis coach. She and her husband Robert reside in Evansville.

Kern-Raibley
|
Tina M. Kern-Raibley's service to USI and the USI Board of Trustees is extraordinary. She personifies the Alumni Association's mission to serve and develop a committed body of alumni dedicated to promoting and enhancing the excellence and the reputation of the University.
A 1986 USI management graduate, Kern-Raibley was appointed by Gov. Evan Bayh to serve as the alumni representative to the USI Board of Trustees in 1995. During her tenure on the Board, she served as secretary 1997-98 and as vice chair of the Board and chair of the Finance Committee 1999-2002. Presently, she is a member of the Construction and Finance committees. Kern-Raibley has served as a trustee during USI's most rapid period of growth - both in enrollment and facilities.
She also shares her leadership skills with many USI organizations. Among them are the USI Alumni Association 1983-89, 1995-present, and as president 1987-88; and USI Foundation 1996-present. In 1998 she was the School of Business Alumni-in-Residence, and she has assisted many University fund-raising programs including the USI Phonathon, Campaign USI, the Annual Fund Corporate Campaign, and the Annual Fund Friends Campaign.
One of USI's most ardent cheerleaders, she continuously spreads the word of USI and its programs to the community and area students. Kern-Raibley is general manager for ID&A Inc. She and her husband David Raibley '73 reside in Evansville.
Daniel S. Hermann '79
Distinguished Alumni Award

Conferral of the Distinguished Alumni Award provides recognition to a graduate who has made outstanding achievements in career or public service. This year's recipient, Daniel S. Hermann, has distinguished himself as a corporate executive in the coal industry.
A 1979 USI accounting graduate, Hermann began his career as a staff accountant for Harding Shymanski & Co. In 1982 he became accounting manager for Black Beauty Coal Co. and was promoted to various positions including executive vice president. In 1997 Hermann accepted the position of president and chief operating officer of Black Beauty Coal Co. and Black Beauty Resources Inc. He also holds offices with affiliated companies including Gibco Motor Express LLC and United Minerals LLC.
An active member of the community, Hermann serves as director and past president of the Boys and Girls Club; a director of Fifth Third Bank; director of the Evansville Regional Business Committee, and former WNIN director. He is a member of Holy Rosary Church, where he serves as chairman of the Capital Campaign and Building Committee, past president of the Parish Council, and past president of the Booster Club.
A member of the USI School of Business Board of Visitors since 1997 and the USI Accounting Circle since 1998, Hermann is past chair of the Accounting Circle and was the School of Business Alumni-in-Residence in 1999. He and his wife Kimberly '79, a member of the Alumni Council, reside in Evansville with children Andrew and Megan.
