Programs
Lighting A
Tradition
This holiday tree-lighting ceremony is held in December to join students,
family, and friends in the holiday spirit. The event features the
Mid-America Madrigal Singers, Santa photos with the children, and free
refreshments. Admission to the event is one canned good or non-perishable
food item. These donated items are given to Archibald Eagle's Food Closet.
Before the actual event, student organizations and individuals are
encouraged to make an ornament for the 21-foot tree. SAA members then
decorate the tree which is located in the Orr Center lobby.
Day on the
Job
This program provides students a chance to experience what really happens
from 9 to 5. Students choose their particular field of interest, then spend
the day with a USI graduate observing the daily work routine. This match can
take place during the fall, spring, or summer semesters. It's a great
way to gain valuable career information, expand career networks, and develop
confidence. The Office of Alumni and Volunteer Services maintains a list of
alumni participating in the program and has the application forms for
students.
Community
Service
Once a month, SAA members visit a local children's organization to lead an
activity. SAA members have been to the Boys and Girls Club and the Hillcrest
Children's Home. Members have a chance to interact with the students
through various activities. Past activities include kick ball,
softball, tie-dying t-shirts, crafts, and jumping rope.
Wiener Wednesday, Chili Chill-Out, and even more SAA events!
