The Business Office is composed of functional units reporting to the Business Office Director.  The purpose of the Business Office is to provide the University community with a service-oriented operation that facilitates the maintenance of financial records, the acquisition of goods and services, the payment of obligations, the collection of debts, and the adherence to institutional business policies.  Functional within the business office are general accounting, accounts payable, purchasing, bookstore, bursar, travel, distribution services, and risk management.  These operations and their services can be further investigated at www.usi.edu/busoff/.

The Computer Center and Telecommunications Department supports the computer systems and equipment for the University offices, computer laboratories and student housing.  In addition, this department is responsible for the local and long distance telephone services and voice mail campus-wide.

The Internal Audit Department mission is to provide independent and objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the University's operations.  Internal Audit assists others in the effective discharge of their responsibilities by furnishing evaluations of departmental activities, recommendations for improvements in systems and procedures, and other information designed to promote effective controls.  Internal Audit strives to help the University accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, controls, and governance processes.

Safety and Security is responsible for security on University property.  It provides faculty, staff, students, and visitors with information and direction regarding the safety of the University; provides emergency medical response to the injured; and works with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office in incidents where criminal laws have been broken.  Security Escorts, parking services, and on-campus transportation systems are part of this unit too.

The Physical Plant is responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining the buildings and land on campus as well as those properties owned and operated by the University in New Harmony.  Responsibilities of the Physical Plant Department include custodial and housekeeping, building maintenance, grounds maintenance, operation of the central heating and cooling plant, and operation of the electrical distribution system.  Also, the Physical Plant oversees and coordinates all renovation, repair, and construction planning and work for the University facilities and grounds.

The Budgeting Department establishes the University operating budgets, assists the University departments with the formulation and control of operating budgets to meet departmental goals; prepares schedules for University biennial budgets, and acts as a liaison between the business office and other departments on campus.

Foundation accounting provides budgeting, accounting, and investment support to both the University of Southern Indiana Foundation and the New Harmony Foundation.
