Why would I want a Marketing degree?
If a dynamic and challenging
position in today's competitive marketplace is your goal then you should consider a
marketing degree. A major in marketing will allow you to pursue many rewarding and
interesting careers within the business arena.
What career opportunities would I be
prepared for?
The marketing major is designed to prepare students with sufficient
knowledge and skills for careers in marketing in
all types of organizations, but not limited to:
- Sales and Sales Management
- Advertising
- Public Relations and Not-for-Profit Marketing
- Retailing and Wholesaling

- Services Marketing (i.e. Health Care, Financial Services,
Utilities, Energy)
- Distribution and Product Management

What will I study?
All marketing majors will receive
instruction in a variety of general business courses to ensure a comprehensive
understanding of the field of business. All marketing majors will be exposed to
required marketing courses, which will introduce the student to the dynamic and exciting
field of marketing. In addition to the required marketing courses students will have
the opportunity to customize their major by choosing from a variety of elective courses.

Will I have internship and co-op opportunities?
Opportunities to participate in USI's Business
Professional Practice Program will be available to you. This is a partnership between USI and a wide and
diverse group of employers. Junior and senior marketing majors are
employed in part-time (internship) or full-time (co-op) positions. The
internships and co-ops allow you to learn professional skills in the business environment while earning
college credits.
USI marketing majors in this program have
worked for both large and small organizations: banks, manufacturers, health
organizations, and non-profits.
Information about these opportunities can be
obtained through the College of Business or the Career Services Office.
What will I need to take to earn a degree in
marketing?
- 53 hours in the
University
Core Curriculum program. All Business Administration majors

124 total hours required for a baccalaureate degree.
These hours must include classes to meet the 39-hour upper division (300/400
level) course requirements. A minimum 2.2 GPA in all business courses
and a 2.0 overall GPA are also required.
