Why would I want a Management degree?
If you want to
acquire the knowledge and skills essential to managers in today's
organizations, you will probably be interested in a degree in
management. A degree in management can lead to careers in
human
resources, innovation, or general management.
What do managers do?
Managers set the goals of their organizations and decide how best to
achieve them. They direct activities and allocate financial,
physical, and information resources. They lead members of the
organization to work together, and the monitor progress toward achieving
the organization's goals.
What does the management major provide?
The management major provides broad
coverage of the technical interpersonal, conceptual, and analytical skills
necessary to specialize in a particular concentration such as human resource
management or change/innovation management.
What career opportunities would I be
prepared for?
The management major is designed to prepare students for careers
in management in all types of organizations. As a graduate of USI,

What will I study?
Management students at USI are taught and advised by a highly
qualified faculty who are experts in their field. All management
majors will receive instruction in a variety of general business courses
(the Business Core) to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the field
of business. Management majors are also required to complete a set
of required courses that expose them to different aspects of managerial
work, such as management of information systems, international management,
operations research, production and operations management, and management
of organizational change/development. In addition, students have the
opportunity to customize their major by choosing one of two tracks
containing emphasis courses:
|
Human Resource Management:
|
- Human Resource Management
- Collective Bargaining
- Wage & Salary Administration
|
|
Management of Organizational Change:
|
- Business & Environmental Factors
- Organizational Theory & Design
- Principles of Quality Management

Will I have internship and co-op opportunities?
Opportunities to participate in USI's
Business Professional Practice Program will be available to you. This is a partnership
between USI and employers. Junior and senior management
majors are employed in part-time (internship) or full-time (co-op)
positions in business. The jobs allow students to learn professional
skills in the business environment while earning college credits.
Information about these opportunities can be obtained through the College
of Business or the Career Services Office. Students can also expand
their knowledge of management by studying abroad for a semester in Europe,
