Incoming Mail Sorting Policy
Incoming USPS first-class mail and business reply mail have first sorting priority, followed by other classes of mail. Mail is first sorted to name, then department. All general USI addressed mail is sent to USI Accounting Office for opening and appropriate forwarding.
Distribution Services will provide address change (moving kits) forms for faculty and staff changing personal home addresses. Faculty and staff cannot change the 8600 University Boulevard address. Completed forms should be sent to the Main Post Office, Evansville.
When mail is undeliverable as addressed (UAA), the USPS needs directions on how to treat that mail. These directions are called endorsements. With no endorsement, UAA bulk mail is recycled as waste.
Official USPS endorsements are located only at specific places on mailpiece.
Department administrative assistants forward personal mail for faculty and staff no longer with USI. Mail pertaining to USI is not forwarded even though it may be addressed to an individual.
Place only accountable mail such as Express Next Day, certified/return receipt letters, and international mail in the "yellow bag" to ensure such items receive the proper service and documentation.
Your cooperation will help draw our attention to those items
that need quick action and avoid accountable mail being confused
with inter-office and regular desktop outgoing mail.
