What is the Internship/Co-op Program? USI is committed to providing educational opportunities as richly diverse as the community it serves. Internships and cooperative education (co-ops) link the classroom with the workplace to provide an education with career relevance. This experiential learning program allows students to have direct, hands-on experience and prepares them to enter their professions with a great deal more training and experience than other students entering the workforce directly from college. What is the difference between an internship and a co-op? A co-op is designed for students to work at least two terms with the same employer. It can be either an alternating (work one semester full-time and attend school the next semester full-time) or parallel (work 15-20 hours per week while attending classes) co-op. An internship is generally for one semester with the same employer. The student typically works 10-15 hours per week for the duration of the semester, while attending school full-time. With co-ops and internships, the individual work schedules are designed to meet the needs of both the student and the employer. Why a job fair? This FREE job fair provides an opportunity for employers to meet and pre-screen potential interns. The most motivated and energetic students will be at the fair. Employers will have the chance to tell students about their businesses and to collect resumes.
