Michael Reine
A 16-year-old Reitz High School student was killed yesterday when the
car he was driving crashed on Harmony Way
near Rodenburg Road. Police said Michael Reine,
of 1312 Diefenbach was killed when he tried to pass another car in a no passing zone on Harmony
Way about 11:30 last night (9/21/1979). While passing, Reine, who was southbound, veered off the east
side of the road, struck two utility poles, then swerved back onto the road and struck
the car he was passing.
His parents said he had left his job at Spaulding Food Center on Barker Avenue at 9 last night and was riding around town with friends when the accident occurred.
A passenger in Reine's car, David Mitchell, 16 of 2746 Hartmetz, was in serious condition today at Deaconess Hospital, suffering from abdominal injuries. A passenger in the second car, Gary Anslinger, 18 of 5917 Broadway, also was in serious condition today at the hospital, suffering from multiple injuries. Driver of the second car, Jack E Gatewood, 16 of 4326 Claremont, was not injured.
Reine was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and the National Junior Honor Society. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 99 and was scheduled to receive his Eagle Scout award in October.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Reine; a sister, Tina at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Greulich and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin H. Reine all of Evansville. BUrial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Hugh Johnny Shutt, 22, formerly of Evansville, Indiana died January 17, 1985. Johnny died at Fort Campbell Kentucky of an apparent heart attack. He entered the army after high school. He is survived by his mother and stepfather Mr. and Mrs. James Simmons. He is also survived by brothers and sisters.
Jeffrey O Jones, 27, Evansville, Indiana died December 22, 1990. He was involved in an auto accident on Highway 64 in Dubois County. Jeff attended Nazarene Baptist church. Jeff was a Reitz high graduate, class of 1981. He played varsity basketball. Jeff was employed at PPG for 9 years. He was a fisherman.
Also killed in the accident was Felecia Henry and their son Jordon O. Jones (13 months). There will be joint funeral services. Buriel will be Oak Hill Cemetery Evansville.
Darrell Drake, 29, of Evansville, Indiana died December 2, 1991. He was involved in an auto accident on Broadway Avenue. He was employed by Hahn Crating.
Buriel will be in Alexander Memorial park, Evansville.
He is survived by his grandparents: Elmer and Evelyn Drake; Mother Sandra Fornshell, step father Jack Fornshell; Sisters Cindy Drake, Wendy Frankenberger, Deanna Hahn, and Sherri Opperman.
Donald Beach, 36, of 8946 Wubert Rd , Evansville, Indiana died December 10, 1999, at his residence. He was an Environmental Engineer for St. Marys Welborn. Don was a Marine Corp veteran, who served in Beruit.
Serviving is his wife of 17 years Lisa Beach; son Justin; Sisters Karen Bayer, Donna Clem and Kayla Stratton; brother Brad; Mother Brenda Wheatly; step mother Linda Beach; Grandmother Lorene Wheatley. He will be buried at Memorial Park cemetery, Evansville.
Chris Nagy, 41, of Evansville died Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at the Heritage Center after a long battle with a brain tumor. After growing up all over the world and experiencing life in many interesting places, Chris and his family settled in Evansville, where he graduated from Reitz in 1981. He worked at Franklin Pastry while in high school and Day's Karpet Kleen. He then began working at Imperial Plastics, now known as Berry Plastics, where he continued to work until his retirement in 1997, because of illness. He made many friends along the way, touching many hearts. Chris was always the life of the party, the first to dance, the first to joke, the first to laugh. He gave hope and inspiration to everyone who was lucky enough to share his life. No one ever taught so many to laugh, inspired so many to live, and touched so many lives without ever saying a word.
An avid sports fan, Chris loved his Vikings and Yankees. He always loved to attend all of his kids' activities. No dad was ever as proud. He bravely and quietly fought his illness, enjoying his family, cherishing each extra day he was given, while never once feeling sorry for himself. He will be missed more than he will never know.
The family would like to thank Heritage Center and staff, Berry Plastics and employees, Dr. Rick Crawford, Dr. Ed Fox and Dr. Rod Warren and their wonderful nurses and staff, Deaconess Hospice, Deaconess Hospital ER and NTCA, IU Med Center, and the many family and friends who have kept Chris and his family in their prayers for so long. We would like to thank every one of you personally who have made a devastating illness and an impossible situation bearable, but there are too many to name. You know who you are, but more importantly, Chris knew who you were. Thank you for all you've done.
Chris is survived by his wife of 18 years, Lora Nagy of Evansville; daughters, Erin and Shelby Nagy; son, Cole Nagy; parents, Karoly and Hilda Nagy; brother, Frank Nagy and his wife, Margret; mother-in-law, Peggy Lewis; in-laws, Larry and Nancy Lewis, Ray Lewis, Vi and Jim Fuller, Charlie and Tona Lewis of Newburgh, Danny and Teresa Lewis, Myra and Bill Pickett, Mark Lewis, Roger Lewis, and Peggy and Greg Bray; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Burial will be at Alexander Memorial Park.
Adam Michael Weed, 41, formerly of Evansville, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, in
Los Angeles, Calif.
He was a child actor and video editor.
Surviving are his wife, Melani; son, Connor McCain Weed; mother, Carol Weed; brother, Kent; and sisters, Kymberli Brady and Julie Brendel.
Entombment will be in Magnolia Mausoleum in Williamson Memorial Gardens in Franklin, Tenn.
David W. Ice, 42, of Evansville, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Deaconess
Hospital.
David was a 1981 graduate of Reitz High School, where he was a member of the football
team and the traveling concert choir. He was employed at Alcoa Warrick Operations for
15 years. David was a member of Forest Hills Wesleyan Church, where he coached and played
for the church softball league. He was a 14-year member of the Conqueror's Quartet.
Through this ministry, David influenced many lives with his God given musical talent.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Susan K. Ice; daughters, Leah and Samantha Ice; sons, Adam, Daniel and Denton Ice; and parents, Robert W. and Barbara J. Ice, all of Evansville; sisters, Sherry DeMik (Randy) of Crown Point, Ind., Cindi Camp (Chuck) of Corydon, Ind., and Karen Wigand (Jerome) of Evansville; several nieces and nephews; aunts, Pat Hancock (Jim), Janice Cross (Sam), and Nancy Knight; uncle, Jim Lincoln (Carla) and aunt, Vickie Shields (Doug). Burial will be at Alexander Memorial Park.
David Andrew Griggs, 42, of Longhorn Drive in Mishawaka, passed away Sunday
morning, June 12, 2005 surrounded by his family in his residence following an extended
illness.
David was born October 7, 1962 in Evansville, Indiana to David S. and Bettye
Jeanne (Haberger). In Bloomington, Indiana, on June 8, 1985, David married the former
Ms. Carol Ormond.
Carol survives, along with their son Robert Griggs of Mishawaka; his father, David S. Griggs and Step-mother Ellen of Evansville, Indiana, his twin brother Jeff Griggs and his wife Rosanne of Fairview Heights, Illinois, and a step-sister Freddie Ann Loeherlein and her husband Tim of Evansville, Indiana. Also surviving are several Aunts and brothers and sisters-in-law. Preceding David in death was his mother Bettye Jeanne.
A time for friends to gather will be held in the Elkhart Tyrian Masonic Lodge, 931 Industrial Parkway, Elkhart, Indiana 46516 from 6 to 7 pm Wednesday, June 13, 2005, where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Cremation will occur, and interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
David was a graduate of F.J. Reitz High School, class of 1981 in Evansville, Indiana where he was involved with the concert choir. He later attended Indiana University in Bloomington and graduated from Davenport College with high honors in computer studies. He was employed by the Gateway Computer Company as a software instructor.
His memberships include the Elkhart Tyrian Masonic Lodge #718, the South Bend Valley Scottish Rite, and the 1st Unitarian Church in South Bend. David also was involved with the Astronomical Society of Evansville, and the Society for Creative Anachronism, but most of all, David loved his family. He will be truly missed by all of his family, friends and Masonic Brothers.
Memorial donations may be given in his name to the Tyrian Lodge Scholarship Fund to help further the education of those in need.
Kenny Palmer,
42, of Evansville, died Friday, September 9, 2005, at his residence.
Kenny was a zoo keeper at Mesker Park Zoo for 16 years.
He was a member of Young Democrats and the American Zoological Association.
Kenny enjoyed playing pool in various leagues in Evansville. He also enjoyed going to spot shoots and playing softball.
He is survived by his wife, Penny Palmer of Evansville; son, Darrell Palmer of Evansville; parents, Kenneth and Janice Palmer of Henderson, Ky.; brother, Darrell Palmer and wife, Jessi of Evansville; sister, Kelly Minor and husband, Wayne of Evansville; grandmother, Norma Palmer of Evansville; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Mike German,
Ira Michael "Mike" German was born August 11, 1962, and died October 4, 2005, at the young age of 43.
Mike grew up with his family Bob Rodgers, Dixie (Rodgers) Billings, Brandi (Rodgers) Tyler and Rob Rodgers
on West Mill Road, where Mike was a son and a brother. He graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 1981.
He had worked at the Pepsi Cola Bottling Plant in Evansville and served 10 honorable years in the U.S. Navy.
For the past 12 years, Mike has been a resident of Colorado Springs, Colo., and worked for RMI. Mike became
a great golfer. He earned many trophies for his achievements in golf. Mike was a good conversationalist with
a quick wit and will be remembered for his good sense of humor. Mike never met a stranger. To know him was to
love him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis Lee and Conda Lee German, sisters, Rebecca "Becky" Hofmann and Iris Ann German, and grandfather, Richard Rodgers.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Vanessa German currently residing in Colorado Springs, Colo. Also surviving are a sister, Kathy (German) Whitlock; brother, Alvis "Ike" German; grandmother, Mary Rodgers; stepparents, Ben Billings and Martha Rodgers; a nephew, Jerry Hofmann Jr.; and nieces, Theresa (Hofmann) Singer, Cindy (Hofmann) Clark and Diana (Hofmann) Wilkes.
Mike was cremated in Colorado. His ashes will be buried in Evansville with his parents.
Robin Ramos Guerro Mahler,
Robin Mahler, 42, of Evansville, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2006, at the Indiana University
Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Robin worked at Heritage Nursing Center and CORE Rehabilitation Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She touched everyone she met and worked with in her life.In her last hours, she managed to touch more lives by being an organ donor.
Robin is survived by her son, Kyle Mahler; her daughters, Cassie, Candace and Kristina Mahler, all of Evansville; sisters, Carol Espy and Michelle Riley, both of Evansville, and Lynn Combs of Chicago, Illinois.
Also surviving are her mother and stepfather, Sandy and Richard Prater of Evansville, and father, William Ramos of Chicago, Illinois; her boyfriend, Eddie Scroggins of Evansville; and several nieces and nephews.
Wesley "Cabot" Phillips, 44, of Evansville passed away
on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at his residence.
Cabot was born on Nov. 3, 1962, in Evansville to William Keith Phillips Sr.
and Beverly (Brink) Phillips. He was a 1981 Reitz High School
graduate. He
started his career as a team member at Brake Supply in June of that year, where he
loved his work and was much loved by his co-workers. He was married to Desiree'
Woodley-Phillips on Oct. 23, 1993. He was an avid NASCAR fan prior to NASCAR being a
popular sport, a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, where he served on the
building and fall festival booth committees. He looked forward to working in the fall
festival booth every year with members of his church He enjoyed traveling with his family,
Panama City Beach, Fla., being his favorite vacation destination. He also enjoyed attending
all Mary Kay functions around the United States throughout the years. He was considered
"the best" Mary Kay husband and loved by all in our Mary Kay family. Cabot enjoyed riding
three wheelers and had an extensive knowledge of classic rock trivia.
He is survived by his wife, Desiree'; daughter, Ashley Brown; sister, Terrie Dawn Becher and husband, John; brother, William Keith Phillips Jr.; mother-in-law, Sharon Woodley; father-in-law, Frank Woodley and wife, Donna, grandma-in-law, Lucille Kramer; brother-in-law, Duane Woodley and wife, Tracy; sister-in-law, Daphne Woodley and fiance, Anthony Ridgway; nephews, Randy Poodry, Brandon Woodley, Jonah, Noah and Isaiah Becher; nieces, Mikaelah and Anna Becher; uncle, Dr. James R. Bishop, D.D.S.; cousins, Kevin Bishop and wife, Karen, and Kent Bishop.
