How to Setup a Student PC (Macintosh)
Connecting to USI Network with a Macintosh
Wired connection
For a WIRED connection, you will need a 10BaseT adapter or card to
connect your computer to the network
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the network card or port in your computer
and the other end into the Ethernet jack on the wall.
Macintosh OS X v10.3
Select the Apple Menu, System Preferences
Click Network
Select Built-in Ethernet (from the SHOW drop down menu)
On the TCP/IP tab, set the following options as shown:
Configure: Using DHCP
Domain Name Servers: blank
DHCP Client ID: blank
Search Domains - blank
Select the Ethernet Tab
Configure should be set to Automatically
Click Apply Now to register these configuration changes
Macintosh OS X v10.2
Select the Apple Menu, System Preferences
Click Network
Select Built-in Ethernet (from the SHOW drop down menu)
Select the TCP/IP tab, set the following options as shown:
Configure: Using DHCP
Search Domains - blank
DHCP Client ID: blank
Click Save or Apply Now
Wireless Networking
For a wireless connection, you will need a PowerBook G3, a Titanium PowerBook G4, or
an iBook with an Apple Airport Card.
Install the Airport card and software according to Apple's directions. Go to a
location on campus where wireless networking is available.

Select the Apple Menu, System Preferences
Click Network
Double-click Airport
On the Airport tab, set these options:
By default, join: A specific network
Network: USI
UN-check "allow this computer to create networks"
Select "Show Airport status in menu bar"
On the TCP/IP tab
Select Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
Search Domains - blank
Click Apply Now
Macintosh OS X v10.2
Select the Apple Menu, System Preferences
Click Network
Verify that Show is set to Airport.
On the TCP/IP tab
Select Configure: Using DHCP
Search Domains - blank
DHCP Client ID: blank
Select the Airport Tab (set these options):
Click Join a specific Network, set network to USI
Leave Password blank
UN-check "allow this computer to create networks"
Check "show airport status in menu bar"
Select AppleTalk tab
UN-check the "Make Apple Talk Active"
Click Apply Now
Select System Pref, Quit System Prefs.
