Library Computing
The Library Computing Services staff consists of a Database Administrator, and two Maintenance Technicians. Library Computing Services supports the Voyager, Checkpoint, Arial, Illiad, and Clio systems. Voyager is an integrated library management system utilizing Oracle DBMS. Checkpoint is the library security and automated circulation system which utilizes RFID technology. Patrons can now utilize the new self-check system for faster and easier circulations functions. Arial, Illiad, and Clio are InterLibrary Loan applications which deliver patron request via the Internet. Library Computing Services also supports all the Staff computers, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) Computers, Library Lab computers, as well as 19 classrooms located on the lower level of the David L. Rice Library. The Computer Center (in conjunction with David L. Rice Library) continues to offer a "Remote Access" server for use in accessing university resources (electronic databases and journals) outside the campus library. The system utilizes a popular software package called "EZ Proxy" to provide seamless integration with the library's existing electronic resources. The system provides remote library patrons with access to 50 electronic databases and 6000 journals which was not possible in the past. Distance Education students should find the system especially useful since they are geographically removed from the USI campus, which makes physically visiting the David L. Rice Library impossible. USI students and faculty should find the system extremely useful as well as user-friendly when doing academic research. If you should have any questions regarding these services, please contact our Help Desk at (812) 465-1080 or contact us via email. |
