Why See a Counselor?

May we help you?

Every year hundreds of students, faculty, and staff members use Counseling Center services. Located in the Orr Center, room 1051, this office provides free and confidential psychological and personal resources. The primary mission of the center is to assist students in reaching their educational goals to improve their quality of life. The staff is diverse, professional, and receptive to those seeking assistance.

How do I use the Counseling Center services?

Appointments to see a counselor may be made in person or by telephone (812-464-1867,) Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Generally, appointments are scheduled one week in advance except in emergency situations. Currently, there is a 5 appointment limit per student each semester. However, we will not turn away any student who needs to be seen.

In the event of an emergency, students are seen for a brief emergency assessment by the first available counselor, who will assist them in determining options for the best immediate course of action.  At that time, students may be offered a return appointment or may be offered a referral to an appropriate community resource, if the situation warrants such a referral.

How do I refer a student for counseling services?

You may make a referral to the Counseling Center in any of the following ways:
-Suggest the student call or go to the Center to make an appointment.
-Volunteer to call the Center while the student is with you to ensure an appointment is made.
-Walk the student to the Center to make sure they make contact, with the potential of being seen as soon as possible for an emergency situation.

Services are provided regardless of gender, race, age, disability, sexual orientation, or nationality.
