Available Assistance
Counseling
Center staff have developed a number of resources to help students with
disabilities better participate in educational programming and benefit from an
accessible environment. These disability resources are different from the
services provided to students through Student Support Services (SSS.) For more
information about or to apply for SSS, please follow the link found on the
Student Support Services web
site.
Documentation of your disability must be received and your
eligibility verified
in the Counseling Center before our staff are able to endorse your
qualification for academic accommodations from your professors, for placement testing accommodations, or for application to Student Support
Services.

Based on a student's qualification for specific accommodations, the following
assistance and resources may be available:
- Referral for professional diagnostic evaluation/re-evaluation of a disability
- Accommodation letters to take to professors
- Scheduled use of available test rooms, readers, scribes and testing computer
- Note taker supplies and copy services
- Assistance in acquiring accessible textbooks
- Sign language interpreter location and financial assistance
- Referral to available tutoring resources in the Academic Skills Center
- Facilitation of adaptive technology requests
- Scheduling of accessible tables and chairs for the classroom
- Assistance with selective scheduling using priority registration
- Advocacy, counseling and referral to community resources
If you have any concerns about the accommodations you are receiving from your
professors, you are encouraged to contact Ronda Stone, Disability Resources
Coordinator, at 464-1961 or in OC 1051; or the USI ADA Coordinator, Doug
Goeppner, at 465-7101 or in FA 166. You are also encouraged to visit his
website at:
ADA Coordinator for more
information about your rights and responsibilities as a student with a
disability.
Please feel free to call the Counseling Center at 812/464-1961 or stop by OC 1051
if you have questions or concerns about your documentation, type of professional
that is appropriate to document your disability, or if you need assistance in
completing the process of verification.
