for Indiana College Network

About Distance Education

USI Distance Education enables students to enroll in courses that fit their circumstances or lifestyle. Distance Education courses at USI utilize technologies such as the Internet, videotape, CD-ROM, DVD, and interactive television.

The USI Distance Education Student Handbook explains the differences between traditional and distance education courses, outlines steps for starting and completing distance education courses and provides students with useful university contacts. Contact the USI DE Learning Center for additional information about course registration and support for distance education students. 

Distance Education Technologies at USI include the following delivery and reception methods:

              Internet, including Blackboard course management software and 
              Breeze Web conferencing software
              Videostreaming and audiostreaming
              IHETS two-way interactive television 
              Videotape: Videotape rental handled by ACT/RMI Media 
                  at 800/745-5480 or fax 800/755-6910. 
              CD-ROM and DVD

 
USI is a member of the Indiana College Network, a collaborative effort by Indiana colleges and universities that make up the Indiana Partnership for Statewide Education. Visit the ICN website to locate distance education courses and programs across Indiana . Each semester, USI joins the other partner institutions to create the Indiana College Network Database of Courses available online.  Click here to access USI's "How-To Guide" for enrolling in ICN courses.  Contact the USI DE Learning Center Coordinator at distance@usi.edu, or call 812/465-7182 or 800/813-4238 (outside Evansville) if you have questions or need assistance. 

The USI Distance Education Advisory Committee, appointed by the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, is comprised of at least one member from each collegeExtended Services, Library Services, the Computer Center , and Instructional Technology Services.  Current committee members include:  Saxon Reasons (Chair), Juzar Ahmed, Tom Bordelon, Abbas Foroughi, Sangwoo Heo, Tamara Hunt, Joy McBride, Philip Orr, Michael Slavkin, Dana Willett, and M. Edward Jones (Ex. Officio).

USI Distance Education consults with public groups, other schools, business and industry to develop a wide range of adult programs, such as noncredit courses, certificate programs, and special programs for K-12 teachers and students. The University of Southern Indiana is approved by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education to offer degree programs via distance education.

USI follows distance education guidelines established by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, the North Central Association and the Western Interstate Cooperative for Higher Education.
