Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings

A traveling exhibition, on loan from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, offers a look at the first steps the Nazis took to suppress freedom of expression in the 1930s and America's strong response to the suppression.

USI's David L. Rice Library hosts the exhibition from Wednesday, February 10 through Friday, March 19, 2010.

Awards honor faculty work

Dr. Guoyuan Huang, associate professor of physical education, received the Outstanding Young Researcher Award from the Council on Aging and Adult Development (CAAD). CAAD is an organization sponsored by the national organization of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The award recognizes an outstanding researcher who has been working for less than 10 years in the areas of recreation and physical activity for older adults. Dr. Huang has written many articles on physical activity and aging and is being recognized by CAAD for his expertise in this area.

Dr. Glenna Bower, assistant professor of physical education, received the Pathfinder Award from the Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD). This award recognizes a member of the association who advocates for and enhances opportunities for girls and women in sport and sport leadership.

Dr. Jane Davis-Brezette, associate professor and chair of the Physical Education Department, received the Honor Award IAHPERD. The award, the highest recognition given to a member of the association, recognizes Dr. Brezette’s long and distinguished service to the association and her profession. She has been a member of the association for many years, served as a member and director of several committees, and as president of the association in 2003.
