
Why did you choose education as your major?
I started out as a business major at USI. I had a job at Stockwell Elementary School’s after school daycare. I had worked there for a year, and over the first summer, I really missed the kids after a couple of weeks. So then I figured maybe education was more suited for me, so I changed my major.
Who was your favorite teacher and how did they influence you?
That would be my North High School teacher, Mr. Beadles. He taught architectural drafting. He taught the class like a college course and treated us with respect. We were all called by our last names, Mr. Baumeyer, that sort of thing. He taught me a lot about professionalism.
Who is your biggest influence?
My parents. They both are strong individuals who have taught me a lot about life.
What is the best thing about USI?
The teacher education program
What is the best thing about student teaching/observing?
You learn a lot from other teachers. You see stuff that you may not have ever thought to use in your own classroom when you teach
What is your favorite college course?
Kamla’s ED 285. He is really an engaging guy. His class is a lot of fun. I also learned a lot from Thomas’s ED 373 Science Methods class.
What is your dream job as an educator?
Just getting a job will be a dream come true. But a teaching job in Italy would be amazing. The food, the people-seems pretty cool to me.
What is the best thing about working as a daycare teacher at Stockwell Elementary School?
It is great when the kids you had worked with and who are now in middle school come back to see you.
