Why did you choose education as your major?
I started my college career at IU as a photography major. It really didn’t work out for me so I came home and enrolled at USI. I took one Education class that first semester and loved every minute of it, and just kept going.

Who was your favorite teacher and how did they influence you?
That would be Mr. Morris at Stockwell Elementary School. I had him for 4th and 5th grade and he made everything fun.

Who is your biggest influence?
My mom. I was raised by a single mother. She is the strongest and most compassionate person I know.

What is the best thing about USI?
The professors here in the teacher education department have made it a great experience. I don’t live on campus, and maybe have missed that experience. But I like living at home.

What is the best thing about teaching/observing?
The kids

What is your favorite college course?
I really enjoy the upper level classes. At this level, you are in the classes with all the same people. You get a chance to really get to know people.

What is your dream job as an educator?
A first grade teacher in Africa. My plans are to join the Peace Corps when I graduate.

What is the best thing about working as an afterschool daycare teacher at Stockwell Elementary School?
The kids are so funny! There are too many stories! But a recent one is when a couple of weeks ago, one of the 1st graders told me my shoe was untied. When I bent down to tie it, all the first graders in my class jumped on my back and basically took me to the ground. My shoe really wasn’t untied, by the way.
