The University offers Master of Science programs in elementary education and secondary education, and the School Leadership program is open only to graduates of these programs.

Graduate students from other areas of the institution such as the College of Nursing and Health Professions or the College of Business are not eligible for the SAL program.  Students currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Education programs also may apply for admission to the School Leadership program and could use required courses in Educational Leadership as electives in the Master of Science program.  About half of the candidates complete the first 6 courses in the leadership program as core credits and elective credits as part of their Master of Science program.

Courses in the SAL program are offered in a traditional 3 hour, evening format:

Education 681 and 682 are offered every fall term.

Education 683 and 684 are offered every spring term.

Education 685, 686, and 690 are offered in the summer semesters.

Education 688, the internship and final course taken in the program, is offered every fall and spring semester.

Most candidates complete the program in an 18-month sequence, though some have required two years to finish.

Any questions regarding this program please contact Dr. John Cochren. His office number is ED 3143; his phone 465-7148; his email jcochcren@usi.edu.
