History of the Endeavor Awards
(Formerly RISC)

In 2001, the University of Southern Indiana created the Research, Innovation, Scholarship, Creativity (RISC) Program to support additional learning opportunities for undergraduate students. Since the program’s inception, students from all disciplines across the university have pursued innovative research, scholarly and creative endeavors through the Research Grant Program and the Showcase.

The RISC program was revamped and expanded, becoming the Endeavor Awards for Research and Creativity in 2009.

The Endeavor Project Award is a competitive program that provides funding to initiate or continue qualifying student research projects. Students may initiate this, or faculty may write this with students in mind to work on the project. All students are eligible to submit proposals for Endeavor Project Grants. The Endeavor Undergraduate Research and Creative Works Symposium provides an arena for undergraduates of all disciplines to present, demonstrate, or display their academic works to fellow students, faculty members, and the public. The Symposium takes place each spring on the campus of USI.

In 2003 a third initiative was launched - the Travel Grant Program. This program provides travel funding to students presenting their research or creative work at local, regional, national, and international conferences and professional meetings. All students, including those participating in the Endeavor Project Grant Program or the Endeavor Symposium, are eligible for funding through the new Endeavor Presentation Award Program.
