Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous

This event begins with a short video of the 1999 Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous Weekend featuring interviews with reenactors and footage of this action-packed weekend.  The video is followed by an interactive session with Frank Doughman, Chief Ranger of the George Rogers Clark National Memorial Park.  He is also one of the reenactors!

Did you know that the first rendezvous took place in Vincennes in 1977?  Each year more than 400 costumed reenactors travel to the site and over 30,000 visitors sample the reenactment.

To celebrate the Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous, the grounds of the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park are set up like an 18th century military camp.  During the two days of the Rendezvous, the encampment is open to the public, and visitors can walk through the camp and see what life was like for the average soldier.  Visitors are also encouraged to stop and talk with the soldiers or reenactors in camp.  Most reenactors are well acquainted with the history of their units and are glad to share the interesting details of their uniforms and equipment.
