What is CAP?
The College
Achievement Program is designed to:
-
Provide an opportunity to earn college credit while in high school
-
Provide an intellectual challenge during the junior and senior years
-
Allow students an opportunity to test ability to do college work
-
Ease the transition from high school to college
-
Reduce the duplication of curriculum that often occurs between the last year of high school and the first year of college
-
Transfer credit to most colleges and universities
-
Provide access to USI's new David L. Rice Library
CAP students also pay a lower per-hour tuition rate than regular university students.
Download the 2007-2008 CAP Student Guide to answer any questions regarding the billing process, checking grades, credit transferability, and much more. How Do I Earn College Credit in High School?
When you successfully complete your
College Achievement Program course work, delivered in selected high
schools by approved teachers, you earn both high school and college
credit. University of Southern Indiana credit earned will be
recorded on a transcript which becomes part of your permanent record
and can be sent to any college or university at your request. The
credit may be transferred to most colleges and universities in the
country.
Credit recognition remains the prerogative of the institution granting it. If you have applied to an institution other than USI, it is wise to check with that college to be sure CAP credit will be accepted. Several thousand students have earned college credit in similar established programs, and the vast majority (over 90 percent) of these students have transferred college credit or been exempted from similar courses at higher education institutions. See your instructor for a list of colleges and universities and how dual credit transfers have been handled in the past.
CAP courses are continually evaluated by USI faculty to assure high academic standards.
