Summer 2009:

USI

What is expected, if I’m selected as a SPIRAL teacher?

·         You will be paid $20/hour for all direct time spent with the project; substitute teachers will be provided (cost reimbursed to school corporation) for any school days you are expected to attend events associated with this grant.

·         You may enroll for three hours of graduate credit in the summer 2009 for participation in this opportunity, and another three hours in spring, 2010, if you so choose.  You must pay your own tuition @ $242.80/graduate hour; Indiana residents = $728.40 total cost for three graduate credit hours taken during summer 2009. Tuition rates have not been set for the 2010 spring semester. 

·         You will participate in science content deepening experiences and observation of Model teachers teaching USI’s Super Summer morning science classes held at Cynthia Heights Elementary School, the week of June 8-12.  The science curriculum is centered around FOSS modules , literary strategies, and Indiana Standards.  Stipend for this week @ $20/hour for 25 hours = $ 500, (9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with 1 hour lunch).

·         You will participate in more science content deepening experiences and actually teach a few lessons, using FOSS modules, during the second week of Super Summer, which will be held July 6-10 at Fairlawn Elementary School. The hours and daily schedule is the same as  the June week.  Stipend for this week @ $20/hour for 25 hours = $ 500.

2009-2010 Academic School Year:

·         Two professional development opportunities, highlighting reading strategies of informational text will be presented by Newbridge Educational Publishing Co.  during the 2009-2010 academic year. ·         After-school Professional development workshops (1.5 hours each) will be scheduled throughout the 2009-2010 school year to all participants to reflect on science teaching and learning.  SPIRAL Teachers will be paid $20/hour for attending these workshops.

SPIRAL teachers will be selected on or before Friday, May 8, 2009 and all applicants will be emailed a list of teachers chosen to participate.  You must have applied on or before noon, Friday, May 1, 2009.
