The Science Performance Improving through Reading And Learning [SPIRAL] Program is funded by an Indiana Department of Education grant awarded to the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation [EVSC], partnering with the University of Southern Indiana [USI] and the Warrick County School Corporation.
The goal of the SPIRAL program is to improve science academic performance
for students in grades
K-8. Professional development activities for teachers are focused on
strategies that foster understandings of science when partnered with
inquiry-centered science instruction using FOSS science modules and literacy
strategies that improve comprehension of informational texts.
SPIRAL will provide the foundation for developing teacher leaders and a professional learning community to improve students' science academic achievements.
